Hey, looking for an amazing dinner spot in downtown Birmingham? You’ve got to check out Roots and Revelry. It’s this great restaurant on the second floor of Thomas Jefferson Tower on Second Avenue North.
They’re open Tuesday through Thursday for dinner from 4 to 10 PM. On weekends, they do brunch too – Friday and Saturday from 11 AM to 3 PM, then dinner from 4 to 10 PM. Sunday brunch runs from 10 AM to 3 PM.
The appetizers here are incredible. I’m talking about their signature R&R Gumbo with Conecuh sausage, Gulf shrimp, and crab meat over basmati rice. The Roasted Sprout Salad is another winner – it’s got these perfectly crispy Brussels sprouts with roasted sweet potatoes and candied pecans. And don’t skip the Crawfish Cakes – they come with this amazing remoulade sauce.
For main courses, you can’t go wrong with their Mediterranean Pasta. They make their own sausage and toss it with sun-dried tomatoes and mushrooms in this incredible cream sauce. The Rack of Lamb is another standout – it’s got this great pistachio crust and comes with roasted acorn squash. If you’re into poultry, their Whole Roasted Poussin (that’s young chicken) is super tender and perfectly seasoned.
The bar scene is pretty fantastic too. They make all the classics like Moscow Mules and Old Fashioneds, but try one of their house specials like The Bow Thai or Garden Party.
Make sure you save room for dessert – their Blackberry Cobbler and Chocolate Gateau are to die for. Oh, and if you’re feeling fancy, the Blackberry and Lavender Crème Brûlée is absolutely amazing.
This place really hits all the marks – great food, cool atmosphere, and solid drinks. Just what you want for a nice night out in Birmingham.
